Home / French Drains
Standing water, a soggy yard or a wet basement all start the same way: water with nowhere to go. We give it somewhere to go.
French Drains
French drains are the backbone of our business. A French drain is a gravel-filled trench with a perforated pipe that collects water underground and carries it away from your house, your yard or your driveway.
Western Pennsylvania clay holds water, and our hillsides send it straight toward foundations. We look at where your water comes from, where it collects and where it can safely go, then build the system to match. That can mean a French drain, buried downspout lines, regrading, a dry creek bed, or a combination.
How We Work
We come out, watch where the water runs and find the real source of the problem.
We lay out the trench, pipe and outlet so the water ends up somewhere it cannot come back from.
Proper slope, fabric, clean gravel and perforated pipe. The parts you never see are what make it last.
We backfill and finish the surface with grass, stone or mulch so the yard looks better than before.
Questions
If water pools in the same spots after every rain, sits against your foundation, or gets into your basement, a French drain is often the fix. We will tell you honestly if something simpler, like extending a downspout, will do the job.
An exterior French drain catches water before it reaches the foundation, which is where most basement water comes from. We look at grading and downspouts at the same time, because all three work together.
A drain built with filter fabric and clean stone, at the right slope, can work for decades. Most failures we fix were built without fabric and clogged with silt.
