New walls, steps and terraces, and repairs to walls that are leaning, bulging or falling apart.
Retaining Walls
Most retaining walls do not fail because of the block. They fail because of water and a weak base. Water builds up behind the wall, the ground freezes, and the wall gets pushed out a little more every winter.
We build every wall on a compacted stone base, with drainage stone and pipe behind it so water has a way out. That is how a wall stays straight on a Washington County hillside. We also rebuild old timber and block walls that have started to lean.
How We Work
We check the height, the soil and where the water comes from before we pick a wall.
We excavate and compact a stone base. This is the part that decides if the wall lasts.
Block goes up course by course, with drainage stone and pipe behind it.
Backfill, caps, steps if you want them, and clean beds or stone around the finished wall.
Questions
Often, yes. Depending on how far it has moved, we either rebuild the failing section or take it down and rebuild it on a proper base with drainage. We will tell you which after we see it.
Mostly segmental retaining wall block, which interlocks and comes in several colors and textures. We also work with natural stone. We will show you options at the estimate.
